Pascal Wehrlein will make his first official track appearance for new team Sauber this week, after doctors gave him the go-ahead following his recent neck injury.
Wehrlein was side-lined from last week’s pre-season test in Spain on medical advice, following his frightening-looking crash in January’s Race of Champions event in Florida.
The German will now get his first taste of Sauber’s Ferrari-powered C36 car in the second pre-season test, which takes place at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya on March 7-10.
Former Manor racer Wehrlein, who was replaced by Ferrari third driver Antonio Giovanizzi for last week’s session, is expected to share driving duties with new team mate Marcus Ericsson.
